Concrete Dowels
GFRP dowels for concrete joints
GFRP dowels are short bars that connect neighbouring slabs and transfer shear across the joint, without locking horizontal movement. CME pultrudes them with isophthalic polyester or vinylester resin, according to the environment.
They do not rust, do not rot and are non-magnetic. They belong where steel is eaten away, or where equipment is sensitive to electromagnetic interference.
Where they are used
Jointed rigid pavement: slab joints in yards, plant roads and industrial floors.
Toll plazas and electromagnetically sensitive areas: GFRP is non-magnetic and does not disturb sensors or detection loops.
Also in channels, saline or wet sites, and anywhere a steel dowel would corrode inside the joint.
Why GFRP instead of steel
Steel rusts inside the slab and opens the joint. A GFRP dowel does not corrode or swell the concrete.
Light versus steel: carried and placed by hand. Smooth or matt surface, length and diameter on request.
Fits the usual joint set-out. CME pultrudes the same material as profiles and construction rods.
Shear
They pass load between slabs without locking joint movement.
No rust
Isophthalic or vinylester. They do not rot or corrode the concrete.
Non-magnetic
Tolls, loops and zones with electromagnetic sensors.
Weight
Light bars: less effort to carry and place.
